Summer is for trying new things

Encouraging children to try new activities is one of the best ways to help them develop essential life skills such as problem-solving, confidence-building, social interaction, adaptability, and creativity. Each new experience contributes to their growth and prepares them for the future.

For 10-year old twins Amon and Amina this summer was about trying new things. Amina spent a week at Columbus Children's Theater for a Disney themed camp. According to the children's mother, Tiffany, Amina's favorite part was a class where they learned how to decorate and create costumes.

"It taught her about all the work that truly goes into theater," Tiffany shared. "She got to rehearse singing and dancing roles as well as fostering connections with members of the Columbus Children Theatre."

While Amina was learning about the theater, Amon was trying new sports at Bo Jackson Elite Sports. Tiffany said the week long camp was not an intensive boot camp, but rather a team building opportunity for the kids.

"Amon was able to take advantage of the in door rock climbing as well as to play different sports all in one day," Tiffany said. "His favorite part was trying new sports." He especially enjoyed the rock climbing wall.

By encouraging exploration and curiosity, we empower children to approach life with enthusiasm, resilience, and a sense of adventure. The Hous Foundation believes all children should have access to trying new things.
