The Hous Foundation Presents
The Great Ladybug Hunt
June 2025 | Central Ohio

What is the Great Ladybug Hunt?
The Great Ladybug Hunt is a month-long event organized by the Hous Foundation. We invite families to get creative and adventurous by painting, hiding, and finding ladybug rocks.

The goal of the Great Ladybug Hunt is to raise awareness about the Hous Foundation's mission to help kids participate in non-school activities. By participating in the Great Ladybug Hunt, you’ll not only have fun but also spread the word about a great cause, helping children access experiences outside of school.
How to Participate
Paint: Gather smooth rocks and paint them to look like ladybugs. Unleash your creativity and make each ladybug rock unique. Use a permanent marker to write housfoundation.org/ladybugs on the back of your rock. Click here for some tips.
Hide: Once your ladybug rocks are ready, hide them in various locations around your community. Parks, playgrounds, and walking trails are great spots to place your painted creations.
Find: Go on a ladybug hunt with your family and friends. Explore your neighborhood and discover hidden ladybug rocks left by others.
Share: Take photos of the ladybug rocks you paint and the ladybug rocks you find and share them on social media using the hashtag #HousLadybugs. Encourage others to join the fun! (Kids, ask your parents for help.)

Enter the Raffle: When you post using #HousLadybugs, your name will be entered in the raffle drawing. We will pick one winner each Friday in June. You’ll get extra entries for following the Hous Foundation on social media and signing up for our quarterly newsletter. Check out the raffle prizes here!

Celebrate: Join us on Monday, June 30 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at Columbus Commons for our Jeni's Fundraiser! Enjoy a special order of "Ladybug Spots!" Jeni's will donate 25% of proceeds to the Hous Foundation. Thank you Jeni's!
Ways your company or organization can get involved
During May, we will be painting 1,000 ladybug rocks. Painting is a great group activity. We can help with supplies or a supply list and give a short presentation about the Hous Foundation and the Great Ladybug Hunt. Contact Sonya at sthesing@housfoundation.org or 614-259-7329.
Do you have a raffle item to share? We prefer family fun donations – including tickets to events and venues in central Ohio.
Your financial support will help us serve more children this year. Learn about corporate sponsorships here.

Why ladybugs?

Isabelle with ladybug rocks painted by her mom, Annie.
We even have a ladybug in our logo.

The Hous Foundation honors the legacy of Annie Niewenhous and her children Isabelle and Parker by improving the quality of life for children in our communities. Annie and Isabelle enjoyed painting ladybug rocks and hiding them for people to find. We are keeping their tradition alive!

Many people believe that ladybugs grant wishes. At the Hous Foundation, we make dreams come true by helping kids participate in nonschool activities they would not be able to afford without a little help.

Share the fun....paint some ladybug rocks!
We hope you will make some ladybug rocks - some to keep and some to hide for others to find.
There is no wrong way to make a ladybug rock. In case you need some help getting started, our friends made this video for you.

If you are going to hide ladybug rocks, please write
HOUSFOUNDATION.COM/LADYBUGS
on the back so new friends can learn about us.

Spread the word!
Take a photo of your ladybug rock and share it on social media.

Tag us, include the location where you found your rock, and use #HousLadybugs.
