When families move to new communities, developing relationships is key to success for children. Jayden and his mom moved to a new neighborhood last year. She registered him for after school and summer programs in his new neighborhood. He especially loved playing football!

His mom shared that participating in his community's aftercare, camp, and sports programs serves as more than a place he goes. "It has given him friends, values, and a positive attitude. Jayden did so well at camp and was exposed to other kids and families, creating opportunities for him." She said it made starting a new school year easier for him.
Participation in non-school activities leads to social connections and having positive role models. Children who participate in activities have better attendance records and better grades, all things Jayden's mom wants for him.
With support from the Hous Foundation, ten-year old Jayden will return to summer camp and play football again this summer. These activities are a financial burden for single income households.
"It's just me and Jayden so finances become an issue when choosing extracurriculars. Jayden is also an amazing football player. I don't want money to be a reason my son misses opportunities," his mom shared. "These are some of the most important years for children. I want Jayden to be able to enjoy them learn and grow."
